Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford would always talk about how they’re Seventies kids. And now, I’m thinking about how I’m really a Nineties kid. My ideas come from things that I didn’t notice were trends at the time, like seeing my sister wear Via Spiga and watching Saved by the Bell.

Kurrency Chandeliers concept by Stuart Karten Design…

Kurrency is a new series of chandeliers made from genuine legal tender. “In today’s economy, there is perhaps nothing so beautiful as cold hard cash,” designer Stuart Karten says of the chandelier’s materials. “But money is beautiful not just because of what it buys. Bills from all cultures display intricate artwork, unique textures and, most importantly, a beautiful translucency under light. (via)

My Money, My Currency by Hanna von Goeler…

My currency work originated in California, while I was studying at UC Davis. I was very interested in camouflage at the time. This interest led me to create my first paintings on dollar bills, in which I camouflaged/painted images onto and into bills. A death in the family led me to the east coast, and faced with the costs of living in New York City on an artist’s budget, I continued to paint on money. (via)

Make It Rain by Scott Campbell…

Critically acclaimed tattoo artist, Scott Campbell, recently showed his work at the O.H.W.O.W. gallery. The highlight of the evening was a series of laser-cut etchings, each on a stack of $1 bills. The collection is entitled “Make It Rain” and shows a sampling of the artist’s dark and beautiful undertones. (via)

His next exhibition, If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long, opens at the end of April.

Mohawk shoes by Yves Saint Laurent…

No longer restricted to the head of women angling for the “on the verge of a nervous breakdown” verge or asserting their inner David Beckham, YSL elevates the mohawk to “it” status with its very own shoe. On some of the shoes, the razor slice of tootbruth-like pony hair continued to the toe. But our favorite was the completely unabashed statement shoe: a hairy heel in Yves Klein Blue. We knew not to step on your blue suede shoes, but we didn’t know it would make your hair stand on end. (via)
