Welcome.

I'm a graphic and interactive designer. I live in New York City, but frequent Los Angeles. This is where I toss my ridiculous ideas, conversations, inspirations, etc. I can be reached at info@ashleysimko.com

It’s no secret that I love receiving presents - after all, I’m only human. However, when someone gifts me a well-designed product it brings me more joy than I can even begin to justify explain. In my mind, several dollars spent on good design far outweighs several hundred or thousand on bad…Yesterday, Liana Engel generously presented me with a new mascara which (as trite as it may sound) practically brought me to tears of joy. The mascara, Guerlain’s Le 2, is an excellent example of avant-garde design. The packaging’s charcoal and black color scheme is subtly geometric and assumably inspired by the lines of the wand’s bristles. When opened, the box reveals an elegantly curved cylinder. Guerlain accurately describes Helle Damkjaer’s creation as “a quivering-esque case with taut, vibrant lines that became so familiar to the touch it felt indispensable”. Simply put, Le 2 is to mascara what Karim Rashid’s Kone was to the vacuum - a modern, appealing and very necessary spin on an everyday product. As for the actual mascara, the formula also does not disappoint (length, volume and definition). The dual-ended tube contains two brushes - one regular as well as a smaller version that is tilted 7° (to make corner and lower lash application easier). Rejoice.
