Truth be told, when an invitation to spend my Super Bowl Sunday in the Oak Room (at The Plaza) found its way into my hands from Peggy Siegal’s camp, my initial impression was that it sounded absolutely absurd. How could an event that usually thrives within sweaty and beer-ridden bars possibly be done in tastefully? I consulted a few friends, and the general consensus was that I had to go - if only to return with stories.
Much to my surprise, the Super Bowl soiree turned out to be a wonderful event. The top shelf open bar, the abundance of delicious seafood, the massive screens boasting the game in high-definition… It all provided the perfect setting for me to relax and catch up with old friends (Stephanie Wei, Rachelle Hruska, Winston Lapham, etc.) while watching the city that I went to college in take home a much-anticipated victory.
