Kanye West’s (deliberately pixelated) Welcome To Heartbreak directed by Nabil Elderkin.
So here’s the thing… On Thursday evening, while I was at the National Arts Club for Kai Kühne’s after party, I actually met Kanye. To be honest, I think our first interaction involved me accidentally stepping on his foot during Roisin Murphy’s performance. It wasn’t until later, while we were talking, that I realized the person in the red letterman jacket had been him. Anyway, it’s a pretty well known fact that although I really respect his work, I’m not a huge fan of his arrogant public outbursts. However, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised - in person he’s charismatic, witty and pretty damn normal. His gorgeous alienesque girlfriend also seemed nice (read: didn’t roll her eyes when I mentioned design). I didn’t bother to take any photos. Although I’m fairly certain that he would have obliged, I’ve learned that when it comes to interacting with people that I admire, sometimes it’s best to just soak it all in - to leave with the memory of an inspiring chat, rather than a blurry photo taken by shoving another camera in their face.
